Bulega fastest in FP2

Nicolo Bulega tops FP2 in Jerez. Sam Lowes and Iannone round out the top-three, followed by Razgatlioglu, Vickers, and Alex Lowes in the top-six. Locatelli, van der Mark, Rea, and Bassani complete the top-ten.

14:44

Rea moves up from 20th to ninth with his penultimate lap of the session, joining four consecutive riders with a 1:39.5 time. Alex Lowes is the fastest of these in sixth.

14:40

Despite Bulega's mechanical issue, he's managed the same number of laps as Razgatlioglu (10). It appears that BMW is exploring technical solutions for the M1000 RR this afternoon.

Razgatlioglu is now out for the final five minutes as Bulega sets a new fast time of 1:38.668.

14:39

Bulega is back on pace, with a 1:38.698 lap, extending his lead at the top. He's now 0.168s ahead of Lowes in second.

14:37

Vickers and Locatelli improve their positions, with Vickers moving up to fifth and Locatelli to seventh. This pushes van der Mark back to eighth.

14:37

Van der Mark delivers a strong lap, moving up to P6 on the second BMW.

14:36

A water leak is reported as the issue for Bulega, which could explain the quick fix. He's back out on the track after pitting.

14:34

Several riders are in the pits. Bulega remains the fastest, with a slight lead over Sam Lowes and Iannone in the top-three. Razgatlioglu is fourth, followed by Alex Lowes, Bassani, Gardner, Bautista, Vierge, and Lecuona in the top-ten.

14:32

Rinaldi is taken to the medical center after a crash at turn 11.

14:28

Razgatlioglu improves to P4 with a time of 1:39.139, 0.396s behind Bulega, who is back on the track.

14:24

Andrea Iannone crashes at turn 11. He manages to walk away, unlike Rinaldi earlier in that corner.

Razgatlioglu was aiming to improve his position into the top-three but had to slow down due to the yellow flags after Iannone's crash.

14:16

Bulega had been setting very strong lap times before the issue, much faster than the rest of the field, which has been consistently lapping in the 1:39s. Razgatlioglu, despite only completing four laps in the first 15 minutes, is also in the 1:39s.

Bulega has returned to the paddock and is bringing his bike back to the pit lane. It's uncertain if he'll be back on track before the session ends.

14:14

Bulega's issue appears to be mechanical. He was lapping in the 1:38s during his first run but noticed smoke coming from his bike, which Iannone informed him about. He's heading back to the pits and has been shown the black-and-orange flag, indicating an immediate stop on the track.

He's stopped at turn 12, and should avoid penalties. This incident is worth monitoring later.

14:10

Michael Ruben Rinaldi crashes at turn 11 and is assisted to walk away. He appears to be injured.

14:08

Bulega starts early with a 1:38.756, a few tenths slower than his morning performance. Sam Lowes is also in the 38s, 0.110s behind Bulega.

14:04

Ryan Vickers crashes at turn six but manages to continue the session without significant issues.

14:00

FP2 begins.

The pit lane is open in Jerez, and FP2 is underway for 45 minutes.
